1. A computer system for generating a second mail item in response to a first mail item, the first mail item comprising a first printed interface surface having first visible information and a collection of first coded data tags printed thereon, each first tag identifying an identity of the first mail item and a position of the tag on the first surface, the computer system being configured for:
receiving indicating data from an optically imaging pen, the indicating data including data regarding the identity of the mail item and data regarding a position of a nib of the pen relative to the printed surface, the pen generating the indicating data using at least some of the first coded data; and
generating the second mail item using the indicating data from the pen, said second mail item comprising a second printed interface surface having second visible information and a collection of second coded data tags printed thereon, each second tag identifying an identity of the second mail item and a position of the tag on the second surface.
